What are the best floor tiles for particular areas and what size should I lay?

The best tiles to choose are dependent on the area that you are laying them in. To determine the best tiles for your space you need to consider: Is it a wet area? Will there be a lot of foot traffic? If its for a wet area such as bathroom, laundry, you may consider having Porcelain tiles. They are made from a more refined material and fired at a higher temperature than ceramic tiles they also have a water absorption rate of less than 0.5 percent. Which can make them more durable and harder than ceramic tiles, and thus often more expensive.

Trying to determine the size of the tile to choose, you should consider the size of the room. Larger tiles make small rooms feel bigger. As with a larger tile grout lines are less frequent.

What is a rectified tile?

When we are referring to rectified tiles, we are referring to a tile that has all its edges mechanically finished in order to achieve a more precise facial dimension. During the manufacturing process, an extra step is taken to grind the tile to precise and consistent dimensions. This ensures the tile edges are perfectly squared. Rectified tiles are ceramic or porcelain tiles that have been precisely manufactured. The main reason people purchase rectified tiles is if they want minimal grout lines, as rectified tiles joint widths must be at least 1/8”. Laying these type of tiles will increase the installation time.

How do you keep polished porcelain tiles clean?

If only tiles were self maintained, maybe in 2050 someone will event this magical product but for now here are some tips on how to keep polished porcelain tiles clean. Porcelain tiles are very durable and are child and asthma friendly. They are also one of the easiest floors to care for. We always recommend to firstly vacuum or sweep your area, then get water, bucket, sponge mop, porcelain cleaner (or even !/4 cup of vinegar with 7 litres or hot water) and start mopping. Its always best to then re-mop the polished porcelain tiled area with clean water. To increase the shine and prevent water spots be sure to finish up by carefully drying the area with a cloth. Extra tip/s: The process of polishing porcelain tiles can leave them more vulnerable to damage. Be sure your porcelain tiles have been sealed to reduce the risk of staining.
